Our rule
We never invent first-hand experiences, measurements, travel use, damage notes, or customer-service stories. If a page claims personal testing, that status must be set on purpose and matched by real evidence on the page.
Testing statuses
Kawaii Toons uses clear honesty labels:

| Personally tested | The author used the exact model described. This label appears only when explicitly set. |
| Purchased independently | The product was bought without a free review unit. Appears only when explicitly set. |
| Gifted for review | The unit was provided without payment. This must be visibly disclosed. |
| Borrowed for inspection | Access was temporary. Observations are limited to that inspection. Must be disclosed. |
| Research-based | Based on manufacturer information, public listings, documentation, or other research. It does not imply ownership or physical testing. |
Research-based reviews and guide notes must not sound like hands-on lab reports. If we did not test a product, we say so.
Marker tests
When markers are personally tested, we may document observations such as:
- Bleed-through — how much ink shows on the reverse of the paper we used
- Ghosting — shadowing without full bleed
- Tip control — how precise lines and fills feel with the tip style reviewed
- Drying time — how quickly ink sets on the paper used in the test
- Smudging — whether dry or drying ink smears under normal handling
- Washability — how claims about washing from skin or fabric held up in the conditions we describe
- Ease of use — cap design, barrel comfort, and how practical the set feels for shared tables
We only publish numbers, dates, or paper brands when they were actually recorded. We do not invent bleed scores or wash results.
Art-kit tests
When art kits or activity sets are personally tested or inspected, we may look at:
- Useful-piece count — how many pieces are genuinely useful versus filler
- Durability — whether tools and packaging hold up to expected use
- Portability — whether the kit travels or stores as claimed
- Mess level — cleanup effort for the activity as described
- Age suitability — whether the kit matches the stated age guidance for supervision and fine-motor demand
Borrowed or gifted kits keep those sourcing labels visible.
Research-based content
Research-based pages may summarize public product details, category advice, or manufacturer claims with clear attribution. They:
- do not imply we own the product
- do not imply we physically tested it
- must not invent tip durability, travel use, or support-ticket outcomes
If a research-based page later becomes a personal test, we update the status and evidence — we do not silently upgrade the label.
How recommendations are updated
We update recommendations when:
- a better-tested or clearer option replaces an older pick
- a product is discontinued or materially changed
- a correction is needed after reader feedback or editorial review
- sourcing status changes (for example, from research-based to personally tested)
Update dates appear on articles when we revise them. We do not claim “always current” live prices or stock without an approved API. Affiliate links may earn a commission; that does not change how we label testing. See the Editorial policy and Affiliate disclosure.
